Soon Auckland Council/Auckland Transport will make a decision on whether or not to continue spraying our roadsides with the toxic herbicide glyphosate (commonly known as Roundup). Glyphosate has recently been re-classified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a Class 2A probable human carcinogen.

Following the WHO ruling it has now been banned or restricted in many countries and cities around the world including the Netherlands, France, Mexico and Sri Lanka. But in Auckland, this dangerous chemical is still sprayed onto our roadsides compromising our health, the health of the workers who have to spray it and the environment.

We are calling on Auckland Mayor Len Brown and the Chairman of Auckland Transport, Dr Lester Levy, to make the right decision and immediately stop spraying our roadsides with this toxic herbicide.

Aucklanders deserve a beautiful city free from toxic cancer-causing chemicals, where we can trust our officials to provide a safe and healthy environment for all of us.
