Introducing Issue 51 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine

For Issue 51 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine, our cover story is  “Natural Remedies for Prostate Problems that Really Work”. Accordingly, this issue includes information on different natural remedies ranging from simple herbs to more complex formulae used in Traditional Chinese Medicine that may be used to assist with prostate problems.

NZ has one of the highest cancer rates in the world and this issue features a personal story of how intravenous vitamin C was used as a supportive therapy between chemotherapy treatments (and following the course of chemo) with an outstanding result for a physician whose cancer (stage 4 bowel cancer) usually carries a bad prognosis.

Vitamin C is probably best known as a treatment for infections, and this issue has a good article on how supplementary vitamin C may be used for this purpose.

Also in this issue, we look at orthomolecular medicine (the use of nutritional supplements) for common conditions such as depression, anxiety and alcohol dependence.  This issue also reports on the work of the late great orthomolecular psychiatrist Abram Hoffer (who was one of the physicians who discovered that niacin (vitamin B3) teamed up with vitamin C could be an effective treatment for many patients with schizophrenia) and we also pay tribute to author Andrew Saul, who sadly died earlier this year.

Herbal medicine is not forgotten in this issue, with articles about the use of two beautiful flowers hibiscus – useful for high blood pressure – and magnolia, which has a plethora of uses.

In the homoeopathy section,  we share two articles showing the value of this non toxic treatment option to treat serious conditions – namely dementia  and Parkinson’s disease.

All this and much more in Issue 51 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine.  (We’re particularly proud of this issue and hope you will enjoy it.)

Wishing you the best of health!

– Katherine Smith and Jonathan Eisen, Editors
