Introducing Issue 59 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine

Unless you have been living under a rock you know that things are pretty grim in many parts of the world  … so for Issue 59 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine we thought we’d lighten the mood with a light-hearted meme on the cover …

… And just for good measure, we’re running a special spread of pointedly funny memes because “A merrie heart doth good like a medicine” (according to the King James Bible).

If you are reading The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine for some serious health information, however, you will not be disappointed.

In this issue we cover a simple treatment for PMS; and continuing on the women’s health theme our Reviews section includes a review of the classic book on childbirth Birth Without Violence.

Our Covid section includes an article on the amyloid like clots that can be a problem after a Covid infection (or vaccination) – and how they may contribute to symptoms such as fatigue – as well a potential treatment strategy.

In our Nutritional Medicine section Dr. Richard Chen makes the case that vitamin D is more than a vitamin – it is a “master regulator of biological barrier integrity” – a hypothesis which helps to explain why maintaining healthy levels of vitamin D has such as wide range of positive effects on health.

“You are what you eat” (said Hippocrates, about 2000 years ago) and issue 59 reports on how probiotic rich foods can help maintain a healthy immune system (as well as boosting digestive health).

Modern life exposes us to levels of artificial EMFs (electromagnetic fields) from electric wiring in most homes plus devices such as smart meters, wifi routers, cell phones (and cell phone towers) which emit microwave radiation. In developed countries, most of us live in areas where the microwave EMF levels are literally millions of times higher than the natural (preindustrial) background level – and this can take a toll on health. The Environmental Health section of issue 59 reports on a new study that shows how many people are now sensitive to artificial EMFs.

This issue also reports on new research about how cannabis may be helpful in ovarian cancer.

All this and much more information in issue 59 of The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine.

Wishing you the best of health!

– Katherine Smith and Jonathan Eisen, Editors
